Mi-2, temelde Mi-1’in turboşaft motorlarla donatılmış tipidir. Eksimiş pistonlu motor iki adet küçük turboşaftla değiştirilmiş, yeni motorlar kabinin üstüne ve dışına yerleştirilmiştir. Bu sayede kabinin tamamı yük kullanımına ayrılmıştır. Tasarım 1961 sonbaharında ilan edilmiş olmasına rağmen ilk uçuş 2 yıl sonra gerçekleştirilebilmiştir. Mi-1 ile benzer görevler için tasarımı yapılan Mi-2’ler 7 yolcu; ambulans tipleri ise 4 yatay hasta, kargo modelleri 700 kg yük, zirai amaçlı olarak ta 500kg ilaç taşıyabilmektedir. Polonya’da da Mieielc fabrikası tarafından lisans altında imal edilmiştir. Mısır ve Suriye’ye ihraç edilenlerin bir kısmının İsrail’in eline geçtiği, ABD yetkililerince incelemeye alındığı bilinmektedir. NATO kod adı “Hoplite”dır.

Mi-2 is basicly the turboshaft powered version of Mi-1. The aged piston engines were replaced by two small turboshaft motors and the new motors were placed outside over the cabin. This enabled to use the complete cabin interior as load compartment. Eventhough the designed was announced in 1961 autumn the first flight took place 2 years later. They were designed for similar assignements as Mi-1 and it carried 7 passengers whereas the ambulance version carried 4 strecthers. Cargo versions carried 700kg payload and the agricultural versions carried 500kg of chemicals. They were also produced under licence in Poland at the Mieielc plant. They were exported to Egypt and Syria some of which were captured by the Israelis and sent to USA for investigations. Its NATO code name is “Hoplite”.
