Paktı yıllarında, COMECON içinde eğitim uçağı üretimi görevi
Çekoslovakya’ya verilmişti. Ancak geçen yıllar içinde yaşlanan
Çek yapımı L-29 ve L-39’ları değiştirmek üzere Rusya
Federasyonu Hava Kuvvetleri bir yarışma açtı. Yarışmayı
kazanan iki uçaktan biridir (diğeri MiG-AT). Az bir miktarda üretilmekle
birlikte ekonomik nedenlerle alımı durduruldu, yerine L-39’ların
iyileştirme çalışmalarıyla Myasichev’i görevlendirdi.
Yakovlev bu arada tanınmış İtalyan yapımcısı Aermacchi ile işbirliği
kurarak Yak-130’ların geliştirilmesi ve batıda pazarlanması çalışmalarına
başladı. Temel jet eğitim uçağı olmakla birlikte
“fly-by-wire”, “HUD”, “MFD” gibi ileri teknolojileri içermekte,
Mach 1.20 gibi hızlarda uçabilmektedir. İlk uçuşunu 1996
Nisan’ında yapmıştır. VVS tarafından denenmek üzere 10 adet
satın alınması tasarlanmış fakat bu husus bugüne kadar gerçekleşmemiştir.

During
the days of the Warsaw Pact, the production duty of trainers were
given the Czechslovakia within COMECON. But in the recent years the
Russian Federation air Force declared a design competition for the
replacement of the aging Czech made L-29 and L-39. This is one of
the two planes which won the competition (The other one is MiG-AT).
After production in small numbers the production was stopped due to
economical difficulties and instead Myashichev was given the duty
for L-39 upgrading. In the meantime Yakovlev started cooperating
with the well-known Italian designer Aermacchi for the development
and marketing of the plane in the West. Eventhough it is a basic
trainer it is equipped with “fly-by-wire”, “HUD” and
“MFD” advanced technological systems and it can fly at Mach
1.20. Its first flight took place in April 1996 and 10 were planned
to be procured by the VVS for further testing but it was not
realised up to this time.
