MiG-19, MiG-17'inin her türlü hava şartlarında uçabilen 2 jet motorlu süpersonik versiyonudur.1. jenerasyon Rus savaş uçaklarının ve geriye eğik kanatlı "MiG"lerin son temsilcisidir. Aynı zamanda ilk Rus süpersonik ve ilk havadan havaya füze donanımlı avcı uçağıdır.İlk prototip uçuşu 1954'de gerçekleşmiştir. İlk servis modeli MiG-19S iyi hava şartlarında görev yapabilen bir uçak olmasına rağmen MiG-19P ve ileri modellerine her türlü hava koşullarında görev yapabilme imkanını sağlayan radar takılmıştır. MiG-21'lerin servise girmesi ile Sovyet Hava Kuvvetleri'ndeki ömürleri kısa olmuştur. Ancak Çin'de F-6 kodu ile toplam 4000 adet imal edilmiştir. Bu miktar Sovyet'lerdeki miktarın iki mislinden fazladır. NATO kod adı "Farmer"dır.

MiG-19 is an all-weather supersonic version of Mig-17 equipped with two jet engines. It is the last “MiG” representative of the 1st generation of Russian fighters with swept wings. At the same time it is the first Russian supersdonic fighter equipped with AA missiles. First prototype flight took place in 1954. Eventhough the first operational model MiG-19S was only able to operate in good weather conditions, radar enabling all-weather capability was mounted on MiG-19P and on other advanced models. It was a short-lived plane due to the appearance of MiG-21’s. But 4000 of them were produced with the code name F-6 in the People’s republic of China. This is more than double the amount produced in the Soviet Union. Its NATO code name is “Farmer”.
