VVS’nin (Sovyetler Birliği Hava Kuvvetleri) “DIS⁽*⁾” projesi talebi üzerine geliştirilmiş çift motorlu, uzun menzilli bir avcı-refakat uçağıdır. İki prototip yapılmıştır. Birine Mikulin AM37, diğerine de Shvetsov M-82 pistonlu, radyal motorlar takılmıştır. Prototipler ilk uçuşlarını 1942’de yapmışlar ve MiG-5 kodu ile seri imalatına başlanması için emir verilmiş fakat çok masraflı bir uçak olacağı düşüncesiyle hemen imalattan kaldırılmıştır.

It was a double engine, long range escort-interceptor designed in accordance with the demands of the VVS(Soviet Air Force). Two prototypes were constructed and one was equipped with Mikulin AM37 and the other was equipped with Shvetsov M-82 radial engines. The first prototype flights took place in 1942. It was ordered for mass production with the code name “MiG-5” but the production was immediately stopped with the indication of being an expensive plane.
